THE MADE LINE STORY

THOUGHTFULLY HANDMADE IN BROOKYLN, NEW YORK

Made Line is an American jewelry company featuring modern & timeless designs thoughtfully crafted with sustainable materials and methods. Handmade in Brooklyn, New York, Made Line solely uses Certified Recycled metal and ethically-sourced, traceable gemstones with styles ranging from classic staples to large statement pieces. Made Line’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that covetable, heirloom-quality jewelry can be made in a way that is socially and environmentally responsible.

Meet the designer:

Hey there,

I’m Maddy Michael, the owner, designer, and maker of Made Line Jewelry. My goal is to make the kind of jewelry you’d want to find in your capsule jewelry box. I do this by making modern, classic, high-quality fine jewelry that makes a gentle statement and is designed to be worn all day, every day.

I personally design and make each piece in my Brooklyn studio. There is no dividing line between the designing, making, producing, and wearing...I do it all! I design what my friends and I want to wear but can't find anywhere else, what I know I can make well, and what I feel confident will function well. The company is based on my personal lifestyle and values, therefore I am committed to using ethically sourced materials, responsible methods of production, and only make pieces that are comfortable and easy to wear. Please read more about the Made Line Ethos here!

I want to create jewelry that becomes a part of your heritage and your story, that you will cherish forever, but wear immediately.

Can’t wait to share more with you - keep up with me on Instagram and join the mailing list for more in depth exclusive stories and offers.

xx

Designer Bio:

The designer, Maddy Michael, is originally from Santa Cruz, California. Drawing upon a childhood spent foraging along foggy Northern California beaches and playing in redwood groves, she is inspired by her love of found objects and is driven to constantly learn new techniques for incorporating natural elements into her designs.

Now a professionally trained metalsmith, Maddy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Metals and Jewelry from Savannah College of Art and Design, and has worked with several highly successful, women-led jewelry brands in NYC, including Catbird, Pamela Love, Selina King, and WWAKE.

Maddy designs and makes each piece in her shared Brooklyn studio collective, Fluxwork.

The Essential Collection is an ever-growing compilation of classic staple jewelry, thoughtfully designed, never rushed, and seasoned over time. At their core, these pieces are designed to be durable and comfortable - meant to be practical and wearable in our everyday lives. PORTRAIT COLLECTION

The Portrait Collection is an ongoing study in nostalgia - inspired by artifacts, found treasures, memories of the past, and dreams of the future. Each design displays an intimate vignette that unravels a special moment in time, yet is universally familiar.

MATERIALS

Recycled Metal

All Made Line jewelry is made with certified recycled metal.

This means that the metal has been taken from a previously owned piece of jewelry (or even electronics and dental work!) rather than from newly mined metal. After the metal has been properly melted down, “cleaned” to take out any impurities, and re-alloyed at the refiner, the metal is ready to be made into something new!

The quality and value of recycled metal is exactly the same as newly mined metal, but using recycled metal is a great way to ensure that you aren’t supporting any bad mining practices that could possibly have many social and environmental consequences.

Traceable Gemstones

I only work with gemstones that are natural and have some form of traceability.

I try to find as much information as possible about the stones to guarantee that they are ethically sourced. Gathering information on gemstones is extremely difficult (the stones go through so many different hands after being mined that it has not yet become an industry standard to track them), however I try to find out as much information as possible about it’s journey from mine to market. If possible I try to find the country of origin, specific mining site, trading information, and where the stone was cut.

If I’m unable to find sufficient information, I won’t use the stone. I proudly share all stone origin information whenever possible!

MADE LINE VALUES

My personal values have always been at the heart of what I do and how I run my business. As a small company, I am not perfect and I do not have all the answers, but I am constantly striving to be better. I highly value and believe in…

HONESTY // INTEGRITY // RESPONSIBILITY // COMPASSION // COURAGE // CURIOSITY

DSC_0447.jpg

Honesty:

being open and transparent with everyone I work with, including everyone in the supply chain, material vendors, customers, and everyone in between. Even being honest with myself when I’m wrong or when I know I can improve.

DSC_0447.jpg

Integrity:

using my values as guiding principles for all business decisions and only working with people that share my values, follow through with their intentions, and are open to talking in detail about their work.

Michael_Madeline_4.jpg

Responsibility:

having respect for the materials I use and the earth that the materials come from. I believe it is important to clean up after myself and continuously learn how to make better decisions and to encourage positive change.

Compassion:

having genuine respect for everyone I work with, especially the people that are in the supply chain and directly affected by the sourcing and manufacturing of the materials I use. I truly believe that compassion is the main source of connection and when this is combined with action, it can create huge positive change.

DSC_0611.jpg

Courage:

practicing courage bit by bit, and eventually creating a confidence in your authentic self. Being bold, strong, and risk taking, while still remaining humble.

DSC_0626.jpg

Curiosity:

staying motivated to grow, learn, make better decisions, and embrace change.
